Upper Gelli – Enjoy A Rich Tapestry of Rural Life

Upper Gelli is a former dairy farm which is nestled in a cluster of working farms. Our neighbour farmers offer guests a first hand experience of the sights, sounds and smells of rural life!

From a traditional dairy herd, a sheep farm, and two mixed sheep and beef cattle farms, together with the varied local wild life, there are no shortages for the authentic countryside experience.

Activities marking the passing of each season are a reminder of why we chose to come and live in this most beautiful part of rural Mid Wales. From ploughing of the fields, new born lambs jumping in the meadow, hay making, the movement of sheep and cattle along the lane, to the calling sounds of pheasants, kites and buzzards, guests will experience a glimpse into the challenging life of our farmer neighbours who work so hard at keeping farming and rural life alive and well. Countryside activities including Game and Clay Pigeon shooting continue to provide locals and guests from further afield with the opportunity to experience country living.

We have ten acres of land at Upper Gelli, the majority of which we let out under a grazing licence to our neighbours. Guests staying at the Bach, Lodge or Shepherd’s Hut sitting outside enjoying a glass of wine may be joined by the company of ewes with their bouncing lambs or grazing cows and calves.

Gelli Lane runs through Upper Gelli and provides access to the Bach, Lodge and Shepherd’s Huts. A narrow winding road along it’s whole length (four miles) Gelli Lane is not a busy lane, agricultural vehicles and the milk truck are regular users together with the occasional stock movement on the hoof! A truly magical sight.

We have created a number of short walks around Upper Gelli, complete with seating, to take advantage of the stunning views of this traditional rural landscape. Stout footwear is advised, and wellingtons if condtions are muddy!

7 acre walk

This walk offers magnificent views across and down the valley. Surrounded by fields and woods and with distant views of Cadair Idris, the Aran Mountains and the Berwyn range, it makes the walk to the top worthwhile! With two viewing seats, take a picnic and a bottle of wine and enjoy the sunset!

Barn walk

Just across from the main house and tucked behind the Dutch barn you will find a quiet and relaxing spot with lovely views across to the woods and down the valley. Enjoy a quiet moment just to relax or take in a book and a picnic!

Pond walk

Created where natural springs reach the surface we have created an area to relax and enjoy the view. The pond is home to our ducks and lots of lovely wildlife. You can choose to sit under the shade of the pine trees or enjoy a picnic directly overlooking the pond. Walk along the wooded path and you will find a seating area and chimera. Beautiful sunset views to enjoy that glass of wine or gin and tonic!

BBQ Hut

Enjoy outdoor living all year round. Experience a BBQ that is something rather special! You can choose to dine inside the traditional Arctic Cabin complete with Reindeer hides or eat alfresco and enjoy the beautiful views across the valley.
